Dryness occurs when one or more of the following factors are in place: cold/dry weather, sun exposure, dehydration or lip biting.
Cold/Dry Weather
We all know that dry weather causes dry skin. It is important to find a lip balm containing Vitamin E to soothe dry, cracked lips. If your lips are really dry to the point where they are flaking, exfoliate them using a washcloth. Follow up with a moisturizing balm for hydration. Lip balms containing natural oils or beeswax also are great at moisturizing the skin.
Sun Exposure
There is nothing wrong with a little fun in the sun, but protect yourself first! Too much exposure to the sun will damage your lips. It is easy nowadays to find lip balms with sunscreen protection. Keep your lips soft and kissable by applying lip balm 10-15 minutes before you step into the sun.
Dehydration
Lack of moisture can result either externally or internally. Externally, cold weather will give you chapped lips unless you remember to apply lip balm. There are also medicated balms available for seriously dry, cracked lips. Internally, you may not be consuming enough water on a daily basis. Increasing your water intake will result in luscious hydrated lips.
